10 Reasons to buy a Minase Watch

Why should you buy a Minase watch ? Years ago, watches were essential tools to keep track of time. Today, the reasons we wear a watch have significantly changed. We all have phones and watches aren’t crucial to stay on time anymore. We wear them for emotional reasons rather than practical ones. We were watches for their looks, their technical specificities, for what they represent or even for their stories. We listed 10 reasons to buy a Minase watch :

 1.     Sarazu polishing just like Grand Seiko

Same technique, but at Minase we call it Sallaz. Every steel part is hand-polished with the Sallaz polishing machine. It takes 45 operations and an impressive level of skills and dexterity to finish the polishing of a single Minase 5 Windows case. A skilled, experienced craftsman usually polishes 6 to 8 Minase cases in a day.

2.     Endless stories to tell your friends

You want to make quite the impression at your next watch night ? Then wear your Minase. The brand’s history, Japan’s traditions, the design, construction and even the packaging will keep you and your fellows collectors busy for a moment.

3.     The price

The price?? Yes, the price ! Let’s talk money ! I am aware Minase watches are not cheap, yet for the quality and level of craftsmanship, I think the price is ok. Remember that they are completely handmade (Except for the movement: ETA) and quite rare with 500 pieces produced in a year. Now you’re right, for the same price you could buy a Tudor. But it’s a Tudor and everybody will know everything about it. Ah that was the point? Never mind.

4.     The After-Sale Service

Our office is based in Biel-Bienne, Switzerland. We are in direct contact with the manufacture in Japan for everything concerning the polishing or bigger problems, and have watchmakers here for small works and adjustments. If there is a problem in the two years after purchasing a Minase, we will organize the shipment and reparation for free. Oooh and the year you buy your first Minase, you might receive a Christmas gift from us, now isn’t that too cool ?!

5.     Minase’s official webshop

With 500 pieces a year, we cannot afford, nor want to develop a big net of resellers. We sell mainly on our official webshop where you can pay with a credit card or Paypal. We size the bracelet for free and organize the whole shipment right to your doorstep. We are aware it is reassuring to see and touch the watches to see if it is like on the pictures (or even better) and participate to several shows like Düsseldorf Watchtime of Windup Chicago and New York.

6.     It is an Investment

The brand was born 25 years ago in Japan and began its international adventure in 2017. So it is still very young and will certainly gain value with time.

7.     They are convenient

The first goal of a watch is… The style ? Give the time ? You judge it, but Minase watches are not just pieces of art, they show clearly what time it is. The hands all have superluminova for a good visibility even in the dark. What is more, they are very comfortable to wear.

8.     The stainless steel bracelets

Minase’s stainless steel bracelets are quite something. They follow a 5-link design and top surfaces of the outer and inner “links” are brushed while the thinner separating links are fully polished on the Sallaz machine. The end link flares out, matching the peculiar interior angle of the lugs. This acute angle is created through the multi-component design of the lugs. Luckily, it doesn’t run down the whole channel between the lugs and even allows for a classic 20mm rubber strap or leather bracelet to fit properly as well.

9.     The dials

I have been talking about Minase for 5 years now, and my favorite part is always when I come to explain the different types of dials we have :

–       Copper plate, stamped and hand-painted with Japanese laquer

–       Stainless steel lacquered

–       Plain urushi makie colors

–       Urushi with gold places, makie and hand paintings

–       Shibo-urushi (urushi and EGG WHITES, I swear)

10.     It is Japanese

That’s all. It’s cool.
